How things turned out at Potato Day 2008

Well, Potato Day 2008 turned out to be a beautiful sunny day, and would have graced April, let alone early February.

We were delighted with the turn out of approximately 700 people.  Quite a lot of them came early as you can see by the queue pictured here - just before opening time.

It was a busy old time inside the marquee for a couple of hours, and sales went very well.  We were disappointed that some varieties we ordered did not arrive, in particular Sarpo Axona and Pomeroy.  Unfortunately we dont know until we uncover the sacks the day before the event which varieties are missing.  We will be taking extra steps next year to try and avoid these disappointments!
Chip tasting is always a popular occupation.  It makes for a busy table and lots of smiles.
Three different varieties were cooked and the tasters marked their favourite on a tally board.  The 2008 winner was KERR'S PINK, followed by PICASSO with SARPO AXONA bringing up the rear.  Frankly they all tasted pretty good though....
This year we held a SEEDSWAP for the first time. The weather was so good  that these volunteers from Ipswich Organic Gardening Group decided to move their table outdoors.  There was a good selection of seeds available to swap, and hopefully the range will grow year on year as more people get used to it being there.

We all had a good time - even the dog has decided to come back again next year!

His friend is Margi who took all the photos you see on this page.  Thanks Margi.
